Impact Measurement

Impact indicators for the Rockefeller Foundation

Client profile

The Rockefeller Foundation is one of the largest Foundations in the United States, with the overall mission of building greater resilience and more inclusive economies.

The Foundation’s Revalue Ecosystems initiative pursues market-based solutions that harness the importance of ecosystems as an asset for smart development, economic and social progress, and long-term resilience.

The challenge

The Rockefeller Foundation invests in six diverse organisations to further their Revalue Ecosystems work. Ceres, Climate Bonds Initiative, Natural Capital Project, Natural Capital Coalition, Principles for Responsible Investment and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board.

The Revalue Ecosystems team were looking for a strategy partner to structure a learning agenda for the portfolio, to critically review and track the influence of the grantees' work and to conduct targeted research and analysis.

Our solution

We act as strategic advisors to the Rockefeller Foundation, providing ongoing impact research and evaluation; a structured learning agenda to support strategy; and analysis of broader trends, portfolio gaps and emerging opportunities.

Our team also plays an instrumental role in fostering collaboration and facilitating communications for the organizations in the portfolio.

By creating grantee-level indicators, tracking their influence and impact, and identifying drivers and constraints to progress, we provide critical expertise and guidance to the Rockefeller Foundation, ultimately fostering enhanced integration of ecosystem value into the real economy, benefitting people and the planet.
