Strategic Planning

Development of a multi-year strategic plan

Client Profile

Latin American Studies Association (LASA) is the largest professional association in the world for individuals and institutions engaged in the study of Latin America

With over 12,000 members, nearly 60 percent of whom reside outside the United States, LASA is the one association that brings together experts on Latin America from all disciplines and diverse occupational endeavors, across the globe

Opportunity

LASA has come a long way towards the successful delivery of its mission to foster intellectual discussion, research and teaching on Latin America, the Caribbean and its people throughout the Americas; to promote the interests of its diverse membership and to encourage civic engagement through network building and public debate.

The organization has experienced rapid growth and has recognized the need to re evaluate their priorities and set the strategic targets for the future. Therefore the organization required a team with the experience to deliver a strategic plan that will articulate LASA's mission and include the goals, objectives and action steps that will guide the organization for the next 5 years.

Our solution

Our team used an inclusive strategic planning process to make sure that we achieve increased overall stakeholder engagement. By involving stakeholders during the planning process, management can enable them to feel more committed to the objectives of the strategic plan.

We carried out a current state assessment of the organization in order to collect the basic information needed to develop the strategic plan and also to assess how LASA compares with other similar organizations.

After a comprehensive stakeholder mapping exercise, our team conducted face to face interviews with over 25 key stakeholders, chosen to represent the various groups that LASA serves. The results provided the input for a detailed SWOT analysis.

Our team also delivered a strategic planning workshop with key stakeholders that led to the identification of a specific list of strategic issues, together with actions to address them, timelines and a clear direction on how successful implementation could look like
